Consultation on change of school day from September 2024

Wednesday 5th June 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

RE Proposed Changes to Timings of the School Day at East Brent CofE Academy

I am writing to inform you that we are proposing to make a slight change to our school day, with effect from September 2024. We are proposing these changes in consultation with the Wessex Learning Trust to bring us in line with the Government’s White Paper recommendation of delivering 32.5 hours of education per school week, for our learners.

The changes we are proposing are:

  • All children will be expected to be in school for registration by 8.55am (Gate remains open from 8.45am)
  • All children will leave the school at 3.25pm.

We believe that these changes will be beneficial to the school community and will have a positive effect on your child’s education, by delivering an additional 50 minutes of education for your child/ren per week.

The proposed changes do not reduce the break or lunch times that students and staff currently enjoy.

We are working together with our Trust, our Local Governing Body, school transport companies and breakfast and after-school club providers, to ensure there is minimal disruption because of such changes.

We would like to hear your feedback on these proposals to allow us to evaluate the impact on our parents and carers as I appreciate that these changes may affect you.  For this reason, we welcome your feedback regarding our proposed changes.  Please forward any thoughts you may have to office@eastbrentcofeacademy.co.uk. We may not be able to respond to your emails individually but please be assured that all your emails will be taken into consideration.

The consultation period will stay open until Friday 6 July 2024. We will then write to parents and carers during the week commencing Monday 8 July 2024, to feedback on the consultation and update you on the proposed changes for September 2024.

Please be assured that careful consideration has been given to various possible options, and that our primary aim is to meet the needs of the majority of our community and to run as efficiently and smoothly as possible.

Yours sincerely

Mrs K Whiting
Executive Headteacher
