Governors

East Brent and Lympsham CofE Academies Local Governing Body

The Local Governing Body (LGB) provides strategic leadership and accountability for the schools.  The main purpose of the LGB is:

  • To gain assurance that the primary objective of the schools are being secured – that learners are making good or better progress and achieving good or better personal development.

To meet this purpose, the role of the LGB includes assisting with:

  • Ensuring that the Executive Headteacher has created a culture that sets high expectations and enables learners and staff to excel;
  • The support and challenge of all staff to perform effectively and efficiently and in the best interests of the school, parents and local community;
  • Ensuring that the curriculum is broad and balanced with spiritual, moral, social and cultural content including Christian distinctiveness;

  • The monitoring and evaluation of the schools’ key performance indicators; effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements; progress and outcomes of learners;

  • The scrutiny of staff and resource deployment including Health & Safety, SEND, Covid and Pupil and PE/Sport premium;
  • All reviews and take note of resulting reports including those from the Chief Executive, Executive Headteacher, Auditors, Ofsted, SIAMS and School Improvement Partners;

  • Holding the Executive Headteacher to account for performance through a series of LGB meetings, Headteacher reports, governor visit days, evaluating the risk register and involvement in the annual appraisal process

The LGB is constituted as a committee of the Wessex Learning Trust Board of Directors in accordance with the Trust’s Articles of Association.  The Local Governing Bodies of East Brent and Lympsham CofE Academies have combined so that one LGB covers the two schools.  The organisation of the LGB was reconstituted in September 2021 in accordance with the Trust’s Scheme of Governance.
